About CNZACEC
During Prime Minister Keqiang Li 's visit to New Zealand in March 2017, China and New Zealand declared 2019 the "China-New Zealand Year of Tourism". After two years of intensive preparations, the opening ceremony, held at Te Papa Tongawera, Museum of New Zealand on the 30th, was hosted by New Zealand Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis, with special guest China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Luo Shugang. Wu Xie, Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand, stressed that China's development will bring more opportunities to New Zealand and provide broader space for tourism cooperation between the two countries. The China-New Zealand Arts and Crafts Education Conference is one of the events officially approved by China New Zealand Tourism Committee for the 2019 China-New Zealand year of Tourism.
China-New Zealand Arts and Crafts Education Conference was proposed by Tamiaho Herangi-Searancke, a descendant of the Maori Royal Family of New Zealand and Director of Te Rakau Humarie school of arts, Maori Academy of Arts and Crafts of New Zealand, together with the New Zealand Arts and Crafts Association, NZ Multicultural Exchange & Experience Center and Jiangsu General Commercial Association In NZ, and jointly sponsored the folk cultural diplomacy. The aim is to promote cultural exchanges between New Zealand and China, enhance mutual understanding and continue the friendship between the two countries. The conference plan will be held in Auckland or China every September from 2019. The main forms of the conference include large-scale art exhibitions of the two countries, round table forums on folk culture and diplomacy, visits to schools and exchanges of artists, and summer camps for children from New Zealand and China.
The theme of the first conference is "New Zealand Maori Wood Carving Hold Hand in Hand with Chinese Purple Clay". It is planned to hold a grand exhibition, appraisal, donation, and charity auction of Arts and crafts between the two countries in Auckland in September this year. It is hoped that artists of the two countries will know more about each other, learn from each other and make progress together in their artistic creation. We look forward to further mutual understanding, friendship and cultural trust between the two peoples through each other's traditional arts and crafts.
